Founded in print on 1 Muharram 1386 AH (22 April 1966), Asy-Syir’ah: Jurnal Ilmu Syari’ah dan Hukum is Indonesia’s longest-standing academic journal in Sharia and legal studies. For over five decades, it has contributed to the spread of scholarly ideas and knowledge in the field of Islamic law. Continuously, it provides a forum for academics, legal scholars, and professionals to engage in rigorous and well-documented legal scholarship. The journal is published biannually, in June and December.
Following the digitalization era, the journal launched its first online publication in 2008 and has since systematically digitized its archival issues to enhance long-term accessibility through the Open Journal System (OJS). Since it mostly published in the Indonesian language, Asy-Syir’ah is well recognized nationally and has been accredited as Sinta 2 (2016–2025) by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia, proving its strong commitment to editorial consistency, peer-review integrity, and scholarly continuity. In order to broaden its international audience, in 2021 it began publishing all issues in English.
