Peer Review Process
The editor-in-chief performs a preliminary evaluation to ascertain whether a submitted manuscript corresponds with the aims and scope of the Asy-Syir’ah: Jurnal Ilmu Syari’ah dan Hukum. If the manuscript is considered appropriate, the editor-in-chief forwards it to the managing editor for subsequent processing, which includes verifying adherence to the journal’s maximum similarity threshold.
Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial screening are assigned to an editor for subsequent management. Each manuscript is assessed by a minimum of two independent reviewers, who are invited by the editor. All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process, wherein the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed to maintain objectivity, academic rigor, and ethical standards. Only manuscripts that receive positive evaluations from qualified experts are considered for publication.
Asy-Syir’ah: Jurnal Ilmu Syari’ah dan Hukum adheres to stringent double-blind peer review protocols, ensuring both rigor and impartiality, while simultaneously maintaining an efficient and transparent editorial process. The principal stages of the peer review procedure are delineated below.
Stages of the Peer Review Process
The journal utilizes a two-stage review process. After an initial technical and administrative screening, each submission is subjected to an editorial evaluation to determine its relevance, originality, and appropriateness. Manuscripts considered suitable are subsequently assigned to an editor for further review and decision-making.
If a manuscript aligns with the journal’s scope and editorial standards, the editor selects and invites a minimum of two reviewers who are acknowledged experts in the pertinent field. Given that peer review is a voluntary academic service, the process may require some time; nevertheless, editors diligently oversee its progress to facilitate timely completion. Throughout this phase, the manuscript status is designated as “Under Review.”
Once the minimum required number of expert reviews has been obtained, the manuscript status is updated to Reviews Complete. are notified and requested to revise the manuscript in accordance with the reviewers' comments and recommendations.
Following resubmission, the editor assesses whether the revisions sufficiently address the reviewers’ comments. If deemed necessary, the manuscript may be returned to the author for additional revision or, if appropriate, rejected for failing to meet the journal’s academic standards or scope.
Peer Review of Referred Papers
For manuscripts transferred from supporting journals, editors may choose to accept, reject, or request revisions based on the existing reviews and editorial evaluations. When deemed necessary, additional external reviews may be solicited, and authors will be notified accordingly.

- Resubmission and assessment of the revised manuscript.

- Copyediting, preparation of galley proofs, and publication processes.
Steps 1 through 5 comprise a complete round of the peer review process. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor may arrive at one of the following decisions:
- Accept Submission: The manuscript satisfies the academic standards required by the journal.
- Revisions Required: The manuscript requires revision prior to reconsideration.
- Resubmit for Review: Significant revisions are necessary before the manuscript can undergo further evaluation.
- Resubmit Elsewhere: The manuscript does not fall within the scope of the journal.
- Decline Submission: The manuscript has been rejected and will not be subject to further consideration.
Decisions concerning the acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts are made by the editors, who rely on the comments and recommendations provided by reviewers. In some instances, if deemed necessary, a manuscript may be forwarded to an additional reviewer for a second round of evaluation prior to reaching a final decision. The publication of accepted manuscripts, including their sequence of publication, is determined by the editor-in-chief, who takes into account the dates of acceptance as well as geographical distribution. On average, the complete process from submission to publication requires approximately 12 weeks.
In accordance with publication ethics, all manuscripts under review are treated as confidential until publication.
